ABOUT

Here's where you can have a quick brief of DID and the different roles an alter can have in a system!

What is DID?

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a mental health condition which was previously known as "multiple personality disorder", is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct identities, known as "alters", that recurrently take control of a person's behavior; which is also accompanied with significant memory gaps. DID typically, but not in every case, develops as a response to severe, prolonged trauma in early childhood.

What is "Headspace"?

Headspace refers to the internal mental world where different identities or alters interact with one another. This is where they spend most of their time when they are not in control of the body.

Common Terms Used

Fronting- This is a term used by people with Disassociate Disorders when one personality is in control of the body.

Co-Fronting- Like fronting, co-fronting is when two or more personalities control the body simultaneously, usually working together.

Alters- A term used to address different personalities, besides using their names, or to talk about more than one personality at once.

Switching- This is the act of one personality trading out with another, giving control of the body over to someone else.
